1986 Honda Civic 50mpg...Honda Fit 28mpg/34hwy. Why!!!???

Their best non-hybrid gets only 34 miles/gal. Their hybrid does'nt even get 50mpg. Did they forget the technology? Does an oil conglomerate own Honda? Do they think we love oil?

The big problem is that we, the general public, want it all. We want more power, more luxuries, more safety, and more room. Then we complain when the fuel economy goes down.

Take a look at that 20 year old Civic and see what the outside dimensions were. What was the horsepower rating? How many airbags did it have? How much did it weigh?

Those "luxury" items we now take for granted such as air conditioning for example. Those larger seats so we can sit more comfortably. The multiple airbags for our safety. The increased horsepower ( about double of the 20 year old Civic ) to haul all those additional items around faster...

...It all takes its toll on the fuel economy. It's not like the engineers forgot how to build a fuel-efficient vehicle, it's all the above factors taking their accumulative toll on the fuel-efficiency.
