2000 honda civic si leaking oil?

what are the main causes for a 2000 honda civic that burns oil, i put oil in my car and in 3 weeks later, my oil is already empty ( i do about 400 miles a week on the car, i am very sure the previous owner hot rodded the car or did not take care of the car because the car only has 70,000 miles on it. Is there any one who can give me some advice on what to do.

is it burning oil or is it leaking oil? most likely with only 70,000 miles, the car is leaking oil... jack the vehicle up and look at the oil pan.... if its not the oil pan, take a look at your valve covers...

Your using the wrong oil, that's why it is burning up so quickly. You should change it to what's recommended for your vehicle. It's usual 10w-30 oil - just check your manuel.Remember that e.g. 10 stands for the oil viscosity at cold operating temperature in an engine, 30 stands for the oil viscosity at high temperature in an engine & the W stands for winter.*10 is like "water" and 30 and up is sticky like "honey"
