99 Honda Civic... Check engine light?
 

Ok, I have a 99 honda civic lx... My check enging light came on right after my fiance filled it up with gas and accidently left the gas cap at the gas station..Which we have bought a new cap for it, of course, but it is still on and the car to me is acting weird..When I am driving it starts acting like it isnt getting enough gas but only from about 50 to 60 mph... And when I am going up hill it gets sluggish.. Also sometimes when I take off.. And when it does this my check engine light starts flashing.I know I need to take it to the mechanic, but just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.actually the fuel cap being off will cause it to flash.. I read the manual.. but that is what I am saying.. I have replaced it now twice..

Before you take it into a mechanic so quickly, wait until it goes through another full tank. A problem of this nature will usually correct itself after the gas lines have a chance to clean themselves out. I know, because I did this with a civic as well and it took about 240 miles to "drive it out" after the light came on. After that, the light turned off and everything was fine again.If it doesn't turn off by then, you might have some other unrelated problem like a water pump or radiator. In the meantime, don't take any long trips, JUST in case.
