Can you replace the AC Clutch in 03 Civic Si w/o replacing compressor?

I just replaced the ac compressor, orfice tube, dryer and belt in my Civic Si. When I got the compressor, I noticed that the clutch appeared to be already engaged. A friend said that it isnt unusual that the clutch is already engaged. So I installed it. After it was finished, there was a pretty loud sound coming from the compressor area. I took the car to the local mechanic to get AC recharged (and hoping the sound would go away with that). After the recharge, the car still made the same sound. We took a look underneath and the clutch was still engaged and it appears that its rubbing against the compressor housing and making that sound. The mechanic said that it has burnt out the clutch..could this be fact?? If so, can I just replace the clutch or do I have to go through the hassel of replacing the WHOLE ac compressor again? Also, does anyone know a good place to get parts online for 2003 Civic Si??

Also, I've heard that you can bypass the compressor alltogether! Some people who take out the A/C can buy just the replacer Pulley to serve as a pulley for the Belt for cars that don't come with A/C. Is this possible??? I don't really need the AC, I live in Colorado.
