Honda Civic Hybrid/ 54000 miles/When Should I replace front brake pads?

They are not squeeking or anything/How many miles do you normally get with average driving habits on a set of brakes?

an honest mechanic should be able to tell you if the pads need replacing. not dear under 100 bucks

there is no benchmark to measure how long brake pads should last. It all depends of type of car and how it is driven. With your car i would expect your brake pads could last a long time. Being a hybrid when you release the accelerator your car enters into dynamic braking. This is when the electric motors that power the wheels act as brakes themselves in an effort to turn forward motion into storable electricity. This will greatly reduce how much brake you have to use. Same is true of manual transmission cars, if you downshift your way to a stop very little brake is required. All brake pads have wear indicators that will let you know when it is time to replace them. Trust me you will hear them when it is time.

Depends on driver and car. Mechanics will usually check for free.
