How do I check the gear oil on a '93 honda civic, 5 speed?

Just recently possessed the car and have never checked the gear oil. Not sure if that is a real issue with performance but would like to get familiar with it.

standing in front of the car it is a plug on the left down low.

maybe U can only see it from underneath.
