Should i buy extended warranty for my honda civic?

My civic's std warranty is about to expire. i looked online and i can get a 5yr/60K contract for ~ $1000. The local dealer quoted me ~ $1500. So if I do this, I'll go online. But is the extended warranty worth it? Once my car goes over 36K/3yrs (which is very close), I won't be able to buy the contract according to the website.

Extended warranties are always good. But if you haven't had any problems with your car yet, I would to be on the safe side. But on the other hand Honda's alst FOREVER and very seldom are problematic. Goodluck.

if u love ur car and want to stick with it i wouldn't bother, it covers a very limited amount of things. which basically means alot of red tape. if u think u want to sell eventually before the extended warranty is up it is a good selling point for ur car and u may get more bang for your buck. (i love that saying) ;)

Extended warranties on brand new cars are a ripoff in my opinion. I believe that if they need to sell you a warranty, then they know there's some kind of malfunction/recall waiting to happen. If it happens to die in the first 6 months to a year, then they sold you a lemon. Face it, it's going to fall apart eventually, why would you want to tack on an extra $1500 plus interest to hold it together, when all you have to do is keep up with the regular required maintainence? It's a waste of money.

Yes you should...

but NOT the online warranty.

I have known people to buy a warranty from an online source only to find that the source/site disappeared shortly thereafter

For those that think cars last forever, remember that they are a piece of machinery made by humans....

My best friend is the office manager at a Honda Dealership.

She has been in the car business for 18 years.

She owns a Honda Civic.

Her (live-in) "significant other" is the Assistant Service Manager.

Guess what ? She bought an extended warranty.

Talk to your local dealer & see if they honor the "online-but less-expensive" warranty company. It might appear to be cheaper...but you may not be able to use it everywhere.

(and it may not even be a legitimate warranty company)

Ask if they can structure a warranty that will suit your individual needs (miles, term, amount of coverage, & deductable) at a lesser price than originally quoted.

Good Luck.
