should i purchase a 1993 Civic EX Coupe as a first car?

Hi i'm currently looking at a 1993 Civic EX coupe. Its at a dealership for $4,990 as their asking price. This would be my first car if i purchased it. but i was wondering if the price was worth it or should i try and bargain it down.It has 157,283 miles on it, a clean carfax history, and has passed all its emissions inspections and never had trouble. It's automatic transmition with FWD, and a 4-Cyl. 1.6L VTEC Engine. It has P/S, power windows, Cruise control, power locks, a Cd player, a moon roof, alloy wheels, and A/C.I was just wondering if it was worth it for the price. Since it does have a lot of miles and is almost 15 years old. And does anyone have any idea how much insurance would be for an 17 year old driver on this type of car?Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance!

$4,990 is definitely too high for a car that's 14 years old. Maybe if it was $2,990, that would be more reasonable. Hondas will run for a long time, though.

That seems an awful lot for a 14 year old car with that many miles.1) do a Kelly blue book on the value.2) have someone else look at the vehicle.I don't think I would touch this one.But that is me

you can get a better car for that price. and with that mileage..it doesnt matter what accessories it has on it. first car. dont buy a sports car. u still have to pay insurance.

Honda is a good car... but thats a lot of money for that car. its old with high mileage, definetly not a good deal. As for your insurance, if you call an insurance agent you can give them your information and what type of car you would be driving and they will give you a quote over the phone for free.

ok first off, that particular model of civic is excellent and great quality reviews and gets great mileage, AND is easy to work on if youre inclined to do so. thats definitely too much for it tho. look underneath the car for rust. try to get one that has been oil sprayed, cuz if it hasnt been, and its that old, lines and things will start to rust and break around this time. unless of course you live somewhere dry like arizona or whatever. bottom line, its a great model of car, but you can always find a cheaper one. i recommend the autotrader website. i think its just autotrader.com. put in honda civic 1992-1995, and your price range. see if you can get virtually the same car for cheaper. even if you have to drive to the nearest big city, you could save yourself a thousand bucks here or there. i agree it should be closer to 3000. dont be scared of high mileage either. ive got a 1992 honda prelude with 380 000 on it and it runs great. ive had cars with extremely low milage that ended up being crap. hondas are the best all around car you can get. maybe toyota as well, but i think honda is most efficient. id say reliability-wise they are even better than cars like bmw and mercedes. since its your first car, make sure you get all the fluids changed right when you buy it so you knows its done. especially the transmission fluid. lots of people dont change it and itll bite you in the a$s later. its best just to have it changed and then you can have peace of mind knowing your car isnt going to give you grief that could have been prevented. hondas will last forever if you take care of them. as for insurance, depends on where exactly you live. itll vary from place to place. if you live in canada id recommend belairdirect. they are like half the price of anywhere else. maybe they are in the states as well, im not sure.
