Timing belt on 90 honda civic dx hatchback.?
Got a great deal on this car. Its cherry, and runs and drives perfect.Been well maintained. Paid $1100.00 by the way. At 196000, the timing belt has never been changed. Should i do this? along with the water pump? Might cost around $600.00. Runs so good im having a hard time making a decision.

maybe buy one if you have some extra cash but dont install it until the current one kicks out

I have broken two timing belts on 1990 Honda's DXs (I had a hatchback and a 4dr) in both cases there was no ancillary damage. Yes, yes, I know this is an interference engine and I was lucky. As for doing it yourself (i did). It's a pain in the behind. There is a motor mount within the radius of the belt. Be prepared to undo 1 motor mount and lift the engine to get the belt on.BTW - reputable shops in the DC area charge $500 +/- to do this job. By the book it is 5 hours. My advice: change the belt and the pump
