Gearing in the drive line is very low for that car. Contact you dealer with the VIN # and Door codes especially the axle codes and ask them to de-code them for you to find out what gearing you have.

Three words: final drive gearing.































The thing that determines your RPM in a given gear is the way the factory set up your differential. You can have it changed if you want a lower cruising RPM, (any driveline shop should be able to re-gear it the way you want) but 3k in 5th or 6th gear sounds OK to me for 70mph.































You may lose your quick off-the-line acceleration if you change the gearing, though.

That's not too bad. My Miata hits around 3.5k rpm at that speed.
