'03 Accord CD player hopelessly jammed

I have an '03 Accord with 40,000 miles (in other words, out of
warranty) with a hopelessly jammed CD player (no navigation system). I
did not force discs in (you have to wait for the green light... those
who have one will know what I mean), and cannot blame the jam on kids
or friends.

Dealer, over the phone, said that it would cost about $300 to repair
(and a 6-8 week wait).

A reputable speedometer shop tried to repair/troubleshoot (could not
remove one disc)... again, report was $300 to $400 for repair (and
similar time period).

At these options, I'm looking for alternatives.

New radios/CD players fit into the "pocket" below, without loss (I
believe) of climate control displays integral into the radio/CD
display.

Steering wheel control of sound system is not that important to me...
I have not used it.

Crutchfield shows CD changers, but they do not integrate into the
existing system.

I hate to believe that Honda has a bad engineering/design problem, but
this looks like one.

Has anyone had similar problems, and are there any suggestions for a
good solution?

Local broadcast radio sucks! Not having a CD player is not an option.
RF CD changers, because of their poorer sound quality are also not a
serious option.

Re: '03 Accord CD player hopelessly jammed

I had the same problem with my CD player and how I fxed it.
First write down the radio code (4 digit)
On the fuse block remove the two fuses (radio power and memory power).
Wait 60 seconds reinsert the two fuses . CD(s) should now eject .
It sure is worth a try and does not cost much to try it.
Good Luck!!!!!

Oh, if it were only that easy...

Turning on and off the system over a period of a few days did empty
the system of all but one disc, but only very reluctantly. Usually
just a small fraction of the disc would be ejected, and a bit of work
was required to grip the little bit that came out.

The Speedometer shop had the system out and told me the system was out
of alignment... wish I had written down exactly what they said...

Unless anyone has any better suggestions, I guess I will head for the
local car stereo shop this weekend for a new system.

Thanks

George,
Before you throw away money on an aftermarket system, there is an option to
save what you have.

No... I know what you mean... these were commercial CD's. I agree with
you about CD labels, though. Been there, done that... never got into
any jams, just out of balance CD's that wouldn't play in all players.
But I never used any paper labeled CD's in this player.
