05 Accord, engine flutters and other various problems

Hi, got a 05 accord w/ 4000 miles on it (4 cylinder engine), I've recently
noticed that after the engine has warmed up and I'm idling in DRIVE, I can
feel slight vibration from the steering wheel and a slight 'fluttering'
sound from the engine, when I put the gear in neutral or park the fluttering
sound seems to go away. I also hear those 'whining' sound which increases
in pitch as accelerate from a dead stop, it You guys got any idea what this
could be? I dont wanna take it to the dealer and have him say "I cant hear
anything" or "this is normal".

I can assure you these problems did not exist before.

I'm very disappointed with this car, I thought I wouldn't have problems like
these if I bought a Honda, another annoying problems:

1) Paint peeling off back bumper (will the dealer replace it or jus paint
it?)

2) when wind shield wipers are engaged, I can feel the pulse of them working
when i have my foot on the brake pedal

3) air leak from the passenger side door while doing 65+mph

4)creaking sound from un even surfaces from the drivers side dash near the
tweater

Hello,
I suggest that you take it to the service department and ask to speak to
the manager of the service department. Tell him or her everything you
stated below. Make sure that all of these problems are taken care of while
the vehicle is still under warranty. Does anyone in this newsgroup know
whether or not this vehicle could be covered by the lemon law? If so,
please post.

I suspect that it is normal. You should decide what lie you want the
dealer to tell you if it is...

There is no excuse for a problem with the paint on a car this new; but
what is it you think can be done about the paint other than replacing it
(the paint)? For what it's worth, if there was a problem with a bumper,
and the bumper was replaced, it would have to be painted; they come
unpainted.

I would ask about this; I can't say if I've noticed such a thing in my
'03 Accord or not.

This is a problem, and the dealer should be able and willing to fix it.

This is s problem, but they may not be able to fix it; I've seen some of
these sort prove unfindable. They certainly should make an effort.

First, so-called 'Lemon laws' are enacted by state legislatures; they
vary from state to state - some states do not have any laws that would
fall into this category with respect to automobiles. In order to
determine applicability, you would need to know the state that the OP
purchased the vehicle in.

Second, *most* automobile lemon laws refer to an avenue for returning a
vehicle within a specific time frame when the dealer has been unable (or
unwilling, in some cases) to satisfactorily address a specific problem
after several (generally three or more) attempts to fix that problem.

Unless there is more to the story than has been given, the law of *most*
states would not apply to this vehicle.

With problems 1, 3, and 4, it sounds like the car amy have been in a
collision and was repaired poorly. How much do you know about the history
of the car?

You don't state whether you bought the car from a dealer or an individual.
I would suspect that either one was not entirely forthcoming about the
history of the car. Just because a dealer sold it (if you bought from a
dealer) doesn't mean that they will be any more honest with you than anyone
else. I once bought a 1999 Pontiac Firebird that I suspected numerous times
of having been in an accident. I had no way to prove it. The dealer had a
body shop on site, so if someone had wrecked it on a test drive, the dealer
could have repaired it without anyone ever recording the damage.

As for the problem of the steering wheel vibration, turn your air
conditioner off. The problem should go away. Pretty much, all Honda's have
that steering wheel vibration when the A/C is turned on. The A/C compressor
places an additional strain on the engine that is noticable at idle and
causes that vibration. There is nothing wrong with it.

If you turn off the A/C and the steering wheel is still vibrating, then you
do have a problem and should take it to a dealer for repair.

My '04 4-cyl auto Accord does not vibrate when the a/c is engaged.

it does sound like you may have bought one that was in an accident and maybe
the door and bumprer were replaced. if you got a real good deal on it, be
happy and the air leak in the door can probably be fixed by a simple hinge
adjustment. if it's supposed to be brand new i would be upset and demand a
trade for a different one. all hondas have the rumbly steering wheel i
think. the power steering they use seems more powerful than other cars and
the trade off may be a slight vibration in your steering wheel. find out the
history of your car and decide what you want to do. i bet its still a
wonderful car and much better than the competition.

Re: 05 Accord, engine flutters and other various problems

I have a 2004 Accord EX Coupe and there has been a creaking noise coming
from the top left side of dash since day 1. There is also a loose feeling
drivers seat that Honda refuses to repair under warranty.

Welcome to Honda's declining quality.

It is unlikely that the service department will find and fix the problem,
You will have to turn up your radio to mask it.

I also had a 98 accord 4cyl which you would feel engine vibration through
the steering wheel. They consider this to be a normal Honda trait.
Pretty much anything they don't feel like fixing will be dismissed as
normal.

Lemon laws do not apply to rattles, vibrations and annoyances. Only to
mechanical troubles or prolonged loss of use.

When I attempted to get my 2004 Accord loose drivers seat issue resolved by
contacting a Honda Regional Rep. I was told that the seat works as it was
engineered to.

I then asked him if there was a reason that Honda engineers put that much
play into the seat.
His response again was " The seat works as it was engineered " and "Didn't
you notice it was loose when you took the car for a test drive"

Honda quality is definitely in decline.

Re: 05 Accord, engine flutters and other various problems

It sounds like you are having more trouble with the service department there
brushing you off than you are having with the Honda build quality.

So, if you test drive an identical model does the seat have the same
problem?

Mike
