06 accord, sunroof not working
I have an 06 accord, we got a warm day today (by warm I mean almsot 50
degrees here in RI, haha) and I went to open the sunroof, and nothing.. switch doesn't respond. now ehres my dilemma, I had an audio place install an amp as well as a 12" sub woofer in my trunk, they also installed a Gentex auto dimming mirror for me. Could they have done something with either of these installs that made my sunroof now work (splice the wrong wire or something)? what should I do? take it to honda and hope they fix it, or go to the audio place first? |

Re: 06 accord, sunroof not working
Go to the audio place first- Honda can fix it, but f it was caused by
the audio shop it won't be covered under warranty. If the audio place gets first shot and can't correct it, have them either 1) remove everything and return the car to factory spec, which SHOULD fix the sunroof, or 2) agree that if Honda determines the problem was caused by them that they will pay for any charges at the Honda dealership. Get the second option in writing... Good luck! They probably mucked something up. I never, ever allow installers to put non-factory stuff in my vehicle. If I make any modification, then I do them myself. Why, you might ask? Well, because I don't trust the unnamed untrained uncertified monkeys who somehow get jobs as professional installers. Don't even get me started about the hatchet job the "professional" DirecTV installer did to my house. It took me the better part of a day to make things right again. John |

My experience with audio places is similarly negative. |

At least, the dealer should have gone through all items with you at that time, which is something my dealer does. The obvious would be a fuse, which most likely blew because of a short. The problem I see is that the dealer may refuse to work on the car because of the non-factory installation. I don't see going back to the installer to put things back the way they were because I suspect the dealer could tell if someone else has been working on the car. You could try the installer -- to see if they may have made a mistake that they could rectify. Otherwise, you are at the mercy of the dealer if they agree to try an fix the problem. In any event -- good luck. |
Re: 06 accord, sunroof not working
Dr. Nick,
I didn't mean to criticise you for choosing a custom installer. I meant to support the others that replied to your post that some of these custom installers are crooks themselves. No one would stick a banner of a shop to their own car unless they are somehow tied into to the shop (like an employee or even the owner). Which sub and amp did you end up getting, and do you like the sound? The wire was drapped around the outside of the house right over top of the gutter which looked like h***. There was no drip loop. There was no lighting arrestor. The antenna itself was mouted shakily and wouldn't hold alignment. Last year we had the roof redone on our house and at that time I completely re-did the installation by mounting the antenna more firmly, rerouting the wiring directly through a roof vent, etc. My installation now looks neat and professional and the signal doesn't drop out on windy days as it used to. Re: 06 accord, sunroof not working
It could be something as simple as the sunroof controller panel not being
plugged in(may have been popped out of the dash when the shop did the work, etc) or, as mentioned, it could be a fuse. I would go back to the shop first. I am very good friends with the guys who own the local car audio shop, and I have seen car dealers really take advantage of people who have had aftermarket work done. The worst cases involve remote starters. No matter WHAT the issue is with a car, if it has a remote starter in it, the dealer insists that the remote starter is the cause of the problem(it very rarely is).."oh, your tires wobble now, must be that remote starter." |
