1991 Accord Fuel Pump

Any help on this is appreciated. Does anyone know if the fuel pump on a 91 Accord is, in fact, under the back seat? If so, how do you remove said back seat?

Thanks,

Chris in OKC

Chris,

I can't say about the location, but 99% of fuel pump problems on Hondas
have nothing to do with the fuel pump. The main relay (which controls
the fuel pump's actions) is under the dash, and it has problems with
shaking / melting it's solder joints apart.

Before you spend a lot of time tearing your car apart, try a 'google
groups' search on 'honda main relay' and you'll find out if the symptoms
are the same for you.

Re: 1991 Accord Fuel Pump

What's the problem? Curly identified a very common malady with c. 1990 Honda
fuel systems.

Otherwise:

http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordManual/400/6-125.pdf shows the fuel pump
location to be in the vicinity of the back seat for a fuel-injected 1991 Accord.

http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordManual/400/6-215.pdf has some instructions on
replacing the fuel pump for a fuel-injected 1991 Accord. They're a bit vague.

Here's the main site for the above:
http://www.honda.co.uk/owner/AccordManual/index.html

Public libraries often have Chilton Manuals for the last twenty years of Hondas
with photos and instructions on repairs.

I thought is was under the carpet in the trunk, just behind the rear seat.
There should be one or two round access holes to get to it.

Re: 1991 Accord Fuel Pump

If you are going to work on the fuel system you really need to get
yourself a service manual, even if only a Haynes. It will give you the
location of the fuel pump as well as all relevant specs and precautions.

Re: 1991 Accord Fuel Pump

Seat bottom is held in place along mid back edge with a 10mm bolt in a
clip on the steel seat frame. Push your hand along the crack of the seat
till you feel it. Remove the bolt, and lift the seat from the back edge.
The front edge is held in by two places where the seat frame fits it two
holes in the floor pan.
Probably not the fuel pump that you are having trouble with. I learned
all this the hard way. bob
