1999 Accord EX V6, strange creak noise in rear
Hi
I got a 1999 Accord EX V6, (Canadian version, if it matters), 126K km (78K miles). When the car compresses it rear suspension (like when beginning to accelerate and the car tips back, or at the end of braking, when the car stops and tips back), it makes a creaking noise, sounds kinda metallic. I'm 100% sure it in the rear, and 99.9% sure it's one the left (driver's) side. Last time i hear a similar noise when the lower front ball joints were dying on my old car. I can reproduce the noise by pressing down hard on the left-rear corner and thus forcing some downward movement in the suspension. I think (but not sure) the creak is easier reproducible after the car has been driven, and less pronounces when it's cold out of the garage. Anyone has any ideas what might this be? Thanks in advance, -Oleg |

If you know a local mechanic that you trust, take it to him and press down hard on the corner of the car to show him the problem. He may be able to figure out the source of the noise without any problems. It could also be a bad balljoint. The rear suspension uses one balljoint, on the outer end of the upper arm. |
Did you ever figure this noise out? I have an '01 Accord and its doing the same thing on the rear left side... its almost like its coming from the frame or something... I'm puzzled! :dunno:

bushings maybe ? it will be hard to tell without a real look under there .

Oh, I've been under there with the wheel off and everything looks "tip top" and its not coming from the shock or spring...
its like coming from (sorry, i dont know my terms very well), but it seems like its coming from what i would consider ABOVE the front control arm for the rear wheel? like the bushings and all "moving parts" seem just fine, but its almost like the noise is coming from the frame above that arm where it connects... hard to explain i know... |
pics can be a great help .

By the way, I'm a jack***.... It was the friggin rear sway bar links... (I really didn't think the noise was coming from them!) And the bushings and stuff were in great shape....
Oh well... had to do the pain in the *** job of taking the old ones off with a pipe wrench and a ratchet like i did with the front ones... (yes if I had an angle grinder my life woulda been a lot easier!) But thanks for the advice anyway and hopefully if someone else is looking for the cause of this noise, they'll find this post! |
yep every little bit helps . still pics wouldnt hurt
