2004 Odyssey shuts off when stopped
My wife's 2004 Honday Odyssey (6K miles) sometimes just shuts off when she
comes to a stop. No lights on the dash or anything. It only happens once or twice per day. This started happening at around 5K miles. She also said it happened while she was moving slowly one time which is really what scares me. I took it to the Honda dealership and they could not get it to replicate. They did an Idle Relearn, checked for air leaks and sensor connections and found no problems. I've called and scheduled another appointment with the dealer, but the problem is getting this to happen on command. The guy wasn't too thrilled and said he can't have a tech driving around all day. I'm just looking for some suggestions as to what could be causing this and how I should pursue this. Could it be a faulty ignition switch? Idle Problem? Does this fall under Lemon laws? I bough the car in PA and it is registered in WV so I'll have to research where this falls. Thanks for any input :) |

Faulty ignition switch, or keys too heavy causing switch to rotate.
Both fairly common. |

Thanks for any input :) ------------------------ Does it ever fail to start, showing a flashing KEY icon on the dash. . . That would indicate immobilizer troubles. I'd run a couple tanks of Gasohol thru it if you don't find anything else. Cheap experiment. 'Curly' |

No lights on dash - are any of the other things still working?? (radio,
etc). If the radio quits as well, it is probably power (ie from the battery) related. It could be that you have a bad connection on the battery and can be easily checked. Of course, if could also be beyond that point, where it is going to the fusebox and is distributed through out the car. Many things could cause things like this -- I am frankly appalled by the attitude of your dealer. Remco |

Sorry, I may have confused you. None of the indicator lights come on. Everything else works fine. The car starts right up after it happens. Thanks to all for the suggestions :) |

As was mentioned make sure you don't have anything heavy hanging in the key.
Several threads at www.odyclub.com forum on the subject. Do a search there. The difference with my problem is that it only does it after it is shut off, it will start then die immediatley, no lights, but everything else works. I actually have to go in to the fuse panel, where the ignition cables go in, remove and plug back in the connection and it runs great again for about 3 or 4 months then it starts all over again. This has happened twice now since I've owned the car. JM2C Eric -- To Reply directly delete "removethis" from email address |

I just had our 2004 Odyssey serviced under a recall notice related to the
fuel pump connector. The recall postcard we received said that if the connector began to corrode, the car could stall. I don't know if it is related, but you may check into that if you haven't had your car serviced for this recall. Good Luck!
