88 Accord Fuel Issues NewB
 

Hello,
I have just acquired a Honda Accord and need some inside advice from a Honda
person. I don't know much about Honda...

Symptom:
piston #2 fills with gas and overflows into the intake then pours out the
air filter.


I have disconnected the injectors and this continues to happen, before I go
and buy new fuel injectors I would like a second opinion maybe there is
something causing this other than the injector going bad. Has any one
experienced this?

any advice as to what to check would be greatly appreciated.

I've seen Honda injectors leak internally, but it was usually just a drip.
It would cause a rough idle, and it would also cause hard starting because
the fuel pressure would bleed off quicker when the car was off.

I bought an 86 accord from the back row of a used car lot for like $250
bucks because the "it wouldn't start". It turns out the front left sun roof
drain overflowed out of the power antenna motor, and the flooded the ECU
under the driver's seat. That caused all kinds of havoc, and the injectors
would stay open, and the cylinders would hydro-lock with gas. Since you
said you unplugged the injectors, I doubt that you have to worry about this.

Some auto parts shops will recondition injectors... new seals and screen and
whatever. They can flow test them, clean them, and check for leaks. I
think the local shop where I live charges about $20 each, but they only
charge you for the ones that they can do something with.

If you need a computer for that car, I may have one in my spare parts
bin. Also have the distributer. LX-i series. bob

Hey Bob...
I appreciate the input. I am going to go in the morning and get a fuel
injector from a pic-a-part just to see if that solves the issue. If so, I
know to get new injectors... I have moved the fuel injectors from one port
to another and the leaking gas moved accordingly, hopefully it is just going
to be the injectors but they are expensive... I am praying that the
computer is still good due to the issue of the car flooding last month.
I read up on the problem and found that if the computer gets wet it can send
a "open" command to the fuel injectors but when you unplug the injectors and
turn on the key the gas still fills the cylinder. almost as if it were
stuck "Wide" open.

So far this car has been fun to work on... especially when I caught it on
fire...
when I pulled the plugs the gas went all over the motor so I disconnected
the fuse to pump and injectors, pulled the coil wire and turned it over to
get the gas out of the cylinder and "Boom" scared the bajeebers outa me. but
fire extinguisher was handy. didn't hurt any thing. was kinda funny when
there was that powder all over the place from the extinguisher.... Kinda
gives new meaning to "thrill seeker" LOL...

Well I worked on the car for about 2 hours today trying to get it figured
out.
Great news... I went ahead and pulled the Fuel injectors from a 92 and after
a little of coaxing it started! I am worried more now though... once it
started I expected it to smoke due to it has been sitting and was in a flood
last month. She has had the oil changed and everything so I am not so
worried bout water damage. but now when you start it there is white smoke
barreling from tail pipe, and blows all oil out of engine under the hood
somewhere and you can see it spittin' oil out of the dipstick...
I am pointing in the direction of blown head gasket broke ring or cracked
head and or block.
I looked at the light on the computer and when you turn on the car it lights
up red and stays on, I will check if it goes off when it is running, didn't
check too close on that.
I will check more into that Monday.
I don't think there is going to be transmission problems it seemed to go
right in gear when I pulled it back up the drive way.
I can say I have "so far" enjoyed working on a Honda... it is my first but
it is fun.
I will keep you posted on progress.

Does it smell strong like fuel? When I had injectors sticking open, there
was so much fuel mixing in with the oil, that I had like 8 quarts in the pan
when I drained it.... and it smoked for a good 15 miles or more after I
changed the oil.

Does it smell strong like fuel? When I had injectors sticking open, there
was so much fuel mixing in with the oil, that I had like 8 quarts in the pan
when I drained it.... and it smoked for a good 15 miles or more after I
changed the oil.

blown head gasket sending pressure back into the crank case causing the
spitting in the dipstick and the gas to be pushed into the oil, drained 3
gallons of gas oil mixture out of crank case, replaced all filters and head
gasket. car has the ever so slight miss now like it is out of time just a
little but you have to listen to hear it. smoking from oil in the exhaust
pipes have almost quit.
Car runs quiet and actually extremely smooth. I was surprised, and excited
