88 accord transmission problems

Hello:) My 88 accord is not shifting correctly. I need to start off in
the low gear and shift it upward through the gears to drive like a
standard shift to make it take off from a stop. Also if Im driving
along and floor the gas pedal the engine will rev up like it were in
neutral?? Speedometer and odometer are not working either. Any ideas?

If you speedometer and odometer are not working then your speedometer
cable is probably broken or disconnected. It connects between a speed
sensor at the top of the transmission, toward the right rear, and the
instrument panel in the car.

Have you checked your transmission fluid to make sure it isn't too low?

Hello and Thank You for the reply!! I will check the fluid tomorrow to
make sure its ok. Would a bad speedometer senso cause the car to not
shift properly?? Thanks again:)Nel

Not on and 88 accord. On these cars the vehicle speed sensor is in the
gauge cluster and only provides information to the computer. The
transmission is not computer controlled at all (assuming you have a North
American Honda). If your power steering speed sensor (the part coming out
of the tranny that the speedo cable hooks to) is busted then you would no
long have speed variable power steering and your speedo might not work and
you might have a power steering fluid leak. I've only seen bad speed
sensors on these cars if they were damaged when removing during a
transmission or clutch replacement.
