93 Accord switches to Schaeffer's

I know we just had a big discussion on synthetic oil. I could not find the
exact answer in that thread. Please help me on this.

I have a 93 Accord with 170K miles. I have been going to a machanic for
maintenance. Recently he recommends me swtich to Schaeffer's Supreme 7000.
It is much better for the engine. Also, I only need to change the oil every
7500 miles. Now here are my questions.

1) Can an old car switch to synthetic?
I heard the following argument many times:
vvvvvvv
In older cars, especially those with an uncertain oil change history or lots
of hours
in hot environments (like Arizona, for example), switching from dino to
synthetic can dissolve deposits that old and hardened seals were depending
on. The affected seals can then leak.
^^^^^^^

Does it apply to my case? I live in California, so weather is not a factor
in switching. Does anyone have experience with that?

2) The oil itself
Is Schaeffer's Supreme 7000 good oil? I know it is a synthetic blend. Can it
last for 7500 miles?

Thanks for your help.

Why worry so much about a car with that kind of mileage..?

Actually it is totally the opposite. Changing oil every 7500 miles will save
me one trip to the shop. I would say that is the main reason I was
considering switching to synthetic.

If you plan to change the oil every 7500 miles (or less)--I don't advise
you to use synthetic oil. It costs much more than regular oil. Since your
car has 170,000 miles, I suggest that you add a can of slick 50 to the
oil--at least once per year--follow the directions on the can. It's not
needed in newer cars.
