93 Accord - Whining Noise

1993 Accord:
Intermittenly a slight whining noise comes from the engine compartment, this
noise lasts for approx 1-2 seconds and only occurs after the accelerator has
been depressed, never has happened when accelerating. Did a little
reseraching and found a technical service bulletin that suggested this might
be the water pump shaft and can be fixed by adding some water pump shaft
lubricant to the cooling system. Has anyone had this type of problem? If so,
how was it fixed? Thank you all in advance for your wonderful insight.

Steve

Knowing the mileage and when the timing belt was changed would help, but
in the meantime, you could check the inside of the distributor cap for
red dust (rust).

If you had said the timing belt was just changed, I'd suggest domething
else. The water pump lubricant couldn't hurt....

I think the power steering pump on my '92 LX makes a little noise on
first start up. I've got 215,000 miles on it, so I'm expecting stuff
like that. bob

I saw the other two posts and those people had some excellent advice. One
other thing you should check is the air filter. Make sure the cover of the
air filter is secured. If the cover is not secured properly--you can hear
a whining noise when you press down on the gas.
