95 Accord V6 speedometer problem
Since it's been cold over the last few months, my speedometer has started
hanging out constantly at 19 mph - no matter what speed I'm driving, and even if i'm stopped. It seems to wake up and work properly when I've been driving a while and the car gets warm. The odometer is also off (registering less than actual miles driven). Basically, what's probably wrong, how much to fix it, and can I do it myself? I'd say I can handle up to a 3 out of 10 on a do-it-yourself difficulty scale. thanks in advance. |

On most Hondas the VSS sits on the transmission, but some older models had it in the instrument cluster. However, most VSS failures give erratic speedometer operation ( needle jumping between 0 and actual speed) or the speedometer gets stuck at "0". I am not familiar with the '95 Accord V6, but I assume since you say that the speedometer stays at "19" (rather then saying "20") I assume there is some sort of digital readout? |

Re: 95 Accord V6 speedometer problem
My 96 civic with 163000 miles does the same thing. It is intermittent but
non funcional about 60% of the time. I changed the vss no luck and 85 bucks down the drain. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks harry05 |

Re: 95 Accord V6 speedometer problem
No, not a digital readout. It's basically sitting just below the "20"
notch, so I figured it to be 19. Is there any reason for me to avoid putting it off? It seems to be fine if the car is warm, and the transmission is not affected at all, so far as I can tell. I don't want it to screw anything else up, that's all. |
Re: 95 Accord V6 speedometer problem
My 95 accord (4cyl) has had speedometer probs for past 3 years, this will
not affect transmission, etc.. "scoolie" <jzc_junkblock_@comcast.n*e*t> wrote in message news:0aff9cb9cf79ecd1bcecb4f9ed634b82@localhost.ta lkaboutautos.com... > No, not a digital readout. the same problem.I cleaned the contact on the plug of the VSS and did not notice any changes.Anyone has found the "real" remedy for this problem? Repair may be prohibitively expensive, even though the actual culprits are probably electrolytic capacitors that could be replaced inexpensively. Anyway, AutoInstruments.com http://www.autoinstruments.com/services.htm advertises speedometer repair - they may be worth a contact. Mike |
