95 Honda Odomoter Fraud
 

I just bought a 95 Honda accord and It only averages 7xxx miles a
year. They stopped recording the miles when they stopped requiring
emissions inspection. Now I found a dealership that had the car in,,
there I think it was for the timing belt and they told me the miles
were 68,250
Now here are the actual recordings:
10/04/1994 6
10/25/1995 10,000
10/09/1996 20,000
11/06/1997 32,000
10/27/1998 37,000
11/01/2004 75,236
and it does not say odometer fraud.
Now the scary thing is the numbers are not exactly straight on the
Odomoter some of them are off. However the 075236 the ones that are
really off are the 2 and 3 and 075 are lined up togother properly.
the 0 does not look like it has moved at all so I am just not sure
what to think... The car looks in great shape inside and the only
minor ware is on the clutch pad that is it there are no holes or other
ware and tare on the interior except for a few scratches. I just do
not know what to think.
Is it difficult on the 1995 Honda Accord LX 5 speed to actually turn
back the miles and what actually is done to do that so I can know what
else to look for.
Also on the title the mileage was proper to what car was showing but I
also know that people do not have to inspect mileage when preparing
titles. Please any help would be great thank you. I do not know what
to do from this point.

I could be wrong, but I think odometers in the 90s and beyond were made with
wipers that would paint the numbers with invisible fluorescent paint as the
numbers roll past. If so, and if the odometer has been rolled back, the "7"
(as in 7x,xxx miles) will glow under black light. Maybe you can borrow or
rent a black light (they are about $30 at Petsmart, IIRC, used for locating
pet urine). If the "7" glows, you'll know for sure.

Mike thank you for the tip. So if they were rolled back the
flourescent paint is made to handle in a way to dye the numbers only
if they were reversed. Now is this true for all the numbers on the

If it is true (I only have one source on that) I think it is on all the
numbers, or perhaps on the thousands numbers and above - ones that won't
expect to roll over and over. Wish I had more info. If a blacklight shows up
glow on the thousand digit but not on the ten thousand digit, you are in
good shape. If on neither, well, my info is worthless.

Mike,
Well I did not get a chance to do the black light test but I can tell
you this I knocked the cluster a couple of times and the numbers
seemed to line up exactly. A mechanic told me that if it were
odometer fraud there is no way the numbers would line up after
knocking against the cluster a little bit. After it went to the next
100 miles the 3rd digit mismatched again and got off center. I think
it is just actually an odometer issue. What are your thoughts on that

I've came across a few misaligned odometer at the junkyard. Most
of them are impossible to straighten. And once straighten, it will fall
out of alignment after hitting a few bumps on the road. Check other
obvious signs of wear like brake pedal, rotors, or pads.

I've came across a few misaligned odometer at the junkyard. Most
of them are impossible to straighten. And once straighten, it will fall
out of alignment after hitting a few bumps on the road. Check other
obvious signs of wear like brake pedal, rotors, or pads.
