96-2000 Civic Stock Wheelcovers: Question RE Lugnuts & Cover Attachment

We have a '98 Civic CX, which came with the standard bare wheels (no
wheelcovers). We purchased a set of OEM Honda wheelcovers after purchasing
the car (identical to the covers which came stock with DX models of that
year). Try as we might, it seems impossible to attach the covers.

Question: Are the wheelcovers standard on the DX, EX, etc. models attached
with different lugs (i.e. with retaining clips or something of that nature)?
We can get the covers nearly on, but there seems to be no way to securely
attach them to the wheel itself. What are we missing?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

J

Don't know if this is the answer for your car, but on my Accord the lug
nuts hold the wheel covers on. bob

Re: 96-2000 Civic Stock Wheelcovers: Question RE Lugnuts & Cover Attachment

The wheel covers are not attached by clips....they are fastened to the wheel
by the lug nuts, which you will have to removed.

On my '91 Civic, there is a plastic circular clip that fits in a groove on
the lug nut. This acts as a washer of sorts and holds the wheel cover on.
I'm betting it's the same for yours. If there is a groove around the lug
nut, then you would just need a clip for each. I would think that these
would be inexpensive at the dealer or a wheel shop.

As the other posters have said, the lugs need to be removed and put on after
the wheel cover.
