accord 2000 clunks in reverse?

I'm hoping someone's familiar with this problem. I have a 2000 Acoorde SE
that makes a clunk anytime I shift from park into reverse and it's
particularly loud if the car was sitting for a while (hours). Mileage is 26K
(low) and the tranny is smoothe but the noise defeats me.

On another note, if I start the car and drive 15 feet going forward I get a
weird sound like a loud buzz, just once and it seems the brake pedal moves a
bit. Doesn't happen again unless it's been sitting somewhere for a while.

1999 Accord EX V6 here.
Does *exactly* the same things you described, otherwise normal as far as I
can tell. I do have 128K km (79K miles) on it though.

An explanation would be most appreciated.

I'm not sure about the clunking noise coming from the transmission. On
5th Preludes with the automatic SS transmission it's one of the first
signs the transmission is going to fail, but I have no ideea if it also
applies to Accords since they are using completely different designs.

The buzz you hear is the ABS calibrating. It's perfectly normal, all
Hondas with ABS I've driven make that noise, and I'm sure many other
people will report the same.

Jim & Oleg,

Your cars have ABS in them. If you don't understand how / why it works,
you should look into it before you get in a situation where it might
give you a surprise. Stomp-n-steer can be a shocker the first time you
use it. Start by reading the manual, and maybe borrow the video from
your dealer.

It's great for most situations, but you need to learn about it.

Curly, Cosmin, thanks for the ABS explanation.

I am indeed aware that my car has ABS, and know how to 'use' it. I just
didn't know that the buzz is the ABS calibrating.

Now, any takers on the clunk?

Re: accord 2000 clunks in reverse?

I've got the same simptoms on mine accord 99 EX V6.
But as far as I remember it was always like that and it's >100K now.
dunno if it's a problem.
I'm going to DS to change tranny's oil next week I'll ask them.

Much appreciated. I'm booking an appointment at my dealer but they're so
busy that it'll be a few weeks before they see it so please do post your
findings!
