Accord brakes
 

Can someone please answer a stupid question... I am (trying) to replace the
front disc on my '96 Accord. I have the brakes completely apart, including
the pad carrier, and have removed the nut on the end of the shaft. I have
removed the bolts mounting the disc to the outer plate. Now what? I cant
seem to remove the axle assembly, how do I get the disc off, Maybe it's
simple, but I can't figure it... Please help!!!

Thanks Cosmin, are you saying that the disc that the axle passes through
MUST come off to remove the freely spinning brake disc? Can you not remove
the shaft somehow and remove the 3 bolts that hold the stub on? It seems
that the brake disc has very large holes cut in it to allow it to pass over
the top of a square assemble, not a round one, are we talking about the same
part??

Wellcome to the club mate. The disk has a cone profile inside, and it
goes in very easily, but when you tighten the drive shaft bolt, it
presses the disk further and further inside, wedging it there. You need
a special tool that you can attach to the disk and pry it out. It takes
a LOT of force to pull it out. I believe that tool attaches to the outer
plate, so you might have to put it back on.

I gave up on it and had it done at my mechanic, it's that hard. Let me
know if you have any luck, I need to change the disks again, so I might
give it another try if you succeed.

goes in very easily, but when you tighten the drive shaft bolt, it
presses the disk further and further inside, wedging it there. You need
a special tool that you can attach to the disk and pry it out. It takes

Hmm... I have a 94 Accord, they might have changed it in the meantime.
On my car, the wheel attaches to a plate. The plate attaches to the
rotor with 4 screws. The rotor has the drive shaft going through it, and
is held in place with a big nut. This is what I remember from about a
year ago...
