Accord Fuel Door
On my 1993 Accord the fuel door will no longer open using the lever in the
car. When I pull the lever the lock does retreat enough to allow the door to open. What is lacking is the spring that the door had to pop free of the lock so it can be opened by hand. I can`t find any diagram of the door mechanism to see if something is missing. I don`t see any place that a spring or something similar is missing that would give the door its ablity to pop open. Any ideas would help. Thanks, Bill |

Caused me to look at that mechanism a bit more closely; it appears to be the same on the Camry, Corolla and Civic, so presumably it's the same on your Accord as well. The spring that's missing is a narrow, flat piece of metal that was probably mounted on a plastic holder on the fuel door, on the side where the hinge is, centered from top down. | I can`t | find any diagram of the door mechanism to see if something is | missing. What we did with the Camry was to get a few regular springs of the right size and just attach them to the various parts of metal on the door, so the door would be spring-loaded to open up. That works pretty well ;) |
Re: Accord Fuel Door
Like the other poster said it is usually a flat piece of metal, bent a
little bit. You could use a compressible piece of foam stuck to the back of the door. When you release the door the foam will spring back a little opening the door for your. I would opt to fix it the original way. That is how cars turn into pieces of junk. Things start getting rigged, one by one, and then you have a piece of junk car. Our (used) Odyssey was rusty around the hinges and it took a bit of oil / wiggle /oil / wiggle to get it to loosen up. Now it pops open perfectly. Re: Accord Fuel Door
Thanks for the helpful info. A small spring sounds like a good idea.

Re: Accord Fuel Door
There is a small spring there already (or should be). By the hinge there
should be a clipped on piece of spring steel. Some times it comes loose and falls off when you open the door.
