Adding a new dash tach to a DX

Is it possible to change out a Civic DX dash speedometer to the LX ones with
the dash tach. I'm looking at a 2001 DX 5 speed and like it, but some reason
that unfinished speedometer with the empty round gauges bugs me. Why does
Honda do this, I mean how much more would a tach add to the price of a new
Civic in the first place. Is there any after market speedometer kits that
would complete this DX haft empty dash panel.

no idea whether the 01's have the wiring for it, but i know the 88-91
civic's will swap out like that with no problems - the main loom comes
ready wired. have done it to a couple i own.

are you sure? i have a '91 civic dx (d15b1, 70 hp) without a tachometer.
could i just take one out of a little bit more powered '91 civic, and swap
it with mine on "plug&play" basis?

like i said, i've done it. the only problem you might have is that the
88-89's have a differently shaped console to the 90-91's, but other than
that, mine were direct substitutions with no further wiring required.
if you want to preserve your original mileage, swapping your old speedo
into the new console is easy too. everything works fine!
