Attention: owners of '03-04 Accords

I found this info. on page 117 of the Sept/04 edition of "Popular Mechanics".

"Idle vibration in the steering wheel and front seat of your 2003-04 4
cylinder Honda Accord getting on your nerves? Technical Service Bulletin
04-024 has two repair procedures. One involves replacing an engine mount
and tightening the engine mount bolts. The second adds extra radiator
mounts and weights to the front bumper's resonsant frequency out of idle
range."

Perhaps a honda mechanic that subscribes to this newsgroup can explain
what it meant by the last sentence. I've been a back yard mechanic for the
past 15 years and don't have a clue as to what it meant by the last
sentence in the above quotation.

It's just poorly written transcribed. Clearly it's meant to read
something like: The second adds extra radiator mounts, and weights to
the front bumper, moving its [or their] resonant frequency out of idle
range."

Last sentence should probably read "The second adds extra radiator mounts
and weights to the front bumper to change resonant frequency out of idle
range."

Basically, it will put the 2 issues in a different "sync" than what they are
now (probably putting them in sync with each other).

I had a similar problem on my wife's '97 Grand Cherokee way back when.
Certain brush/grill guards would cause a terrible vibration (even at idle).
Finally found one (well, the dealer did as it was part of the custom
package) that didn't have the issue.

look under the middle of your front bumper cover. see the 4
fasteners? the hold a weight inside the bumper cover. we replace this
with a larger one to help dampen harmonic vibrations.

there are new mounts but the important piece is the new weight in
the bottom of the front bumper cover, there is one there if you look,
dead center at the bottom inside. the new one is heavier and balances
out harmonic vibration.
