A/C problem... please help!
Hi guys,
I'm a proud owner of a 92 Accord EX with ~134K mi. Recently changed my ac and fan belts, but all of a sudden a squeal appeared as I'd turn on my AC. This didn't happen before I changed the belts. Went back to the mechanic, he tightened the belts. Squeal went away for a little while, but now came back. It starts making the annoying sound while car is idling. While on the road or revs are above ~1000, no problem. The same mechanic says it sounds like it's not the belt but the AC compressor, it's starting to lock up. Does anyone have any other opinions as to the reason for this sound? Is this appropriate time for compressor to go bad? Thanks in advance, Dave |

This has happened to me several times after changing belts, even with Honda belts. Dunno if it's just a tad too tight or what. |

sometimes this is a symptom of the harmonic balancer going bad. Just
replaced one that became 2 parts. the inner hub separated from the outer ring where the belts go. the squeal was caused by the wobble as the harmonic balancer was coming apart. YEP... that was the problem. Harmonic Balancer! I was so glad when I heard
this because I wasn't in the mood for spending over $200 for a AC compressor. Thank for the info.
