Can I Fix The Air Conditioning Compressor This Way?
 

Hello:

I have a 1991 Honda Accord that is a great car, but long in the teeth
now, and so I use it mostly as a beater car. The A/C clutch appears
to have gone out (don't hear it click in), and it seems like they
would have to pull the engine in order to replace that. Is there an
el-cheapo workaround to get the A/C going? It's just too hot in South
Texas in the Summer. I was thinking about having someone spot weld
the clutch stator to the rotor, or something nuts like that. Is that
a possible, if not altogether elegant solution?

Here in Ohio, I was able to get a retrofit kit at the parts store to
change the Freon to R-135. You may be low on AC gas. Probably have a
leak in the lower left corner of the condenser. bob (92 Accord)

an R-134 retrofit can be done at any honda dealer.
The engine does not have to be pulled to replace the compressor clutch. I
would recommend replacing the Clutch and stator both if one of them is bad.
a dealer shouldn't charge more than 3.5 hours of thier flat rate labor. plus
probablty 275.00 in parts.

odds are the system is empty. and these are famous for leeaking out
the high pressure switch neear the p/s reservoir.
the first rule of a/c work is put the guages on it and see what the
static charge is.
