CR-V engine noise
Hi all
I have a 2002 CR-V 2.0 ES. At about 5000 kms a clicking engine noise started. Now at 20.000 kms the noise has increased to a knocking sound (that follows the revs). Worst with cold engine but it never disappears totally. What could it be - a piston thats too small? (I dont think a valve could make so much noise but Im not sure). Enyone else with this problem? Thanks Henrik |

Are the valves adjustable? Piston slap is not unusual on all Hondas, especially when cold, but 'ticking' is usually valves, an you can tell because it's a half-speed noise. Your definition of COLD might be -40C, so I'm guessing that Danes use 5w-20 oil, or synthetic, right? At 20,000 km, I'd get the valves adjusted and the 'Dual Pump Fluid' (no connection) changed just for the peace of mind. :-) When it's -40 here, (Western Canada) we get several extra noises under the hood too, but all go away after about two minutes. Changing the oil did not help. The noise got worse when the dealer changed
the oil at the first maintenance visit. The dealer says it nothing to worry about. But it has increased since last time I visited him - I think it soon is time to visit him again!! IThe valves are adjustable according to the manual. I hope that will fix it. Our normal winter-night temperature is between -5 to -10C. So we use a synthetic 0-40 oil. -40 -thats cold!! By the way the sound gets worse under accelaration. /Henrik "'Curly Q.
