crack in transmission
 

Does anyone know a good way to repair a 1 inch crack in the transmission,
without having to pull everything out to replace the case.
I have a Honda 2000 CRV auto trans front wheel drive.

I can't think of an easy and cheap way to repair it. However, if you want
to save lots of money on the replacement of the case, I advise you to
visit the largest junk yard in your area and ask how much they would
charge you for a used case. Most of those junk yards are now on a special
computer net work and can order you one from another junk yard even if
they don't have one in stock. They also will guarantee it. I have had lots
of success in dealing with the local junk yard.

Well, I assume you hit something. If its just a simple crack that's leaking
oil, and not a major dent with loose bits, then do the following:

1. throughly clean the crack area with a wire brush and acetone or thinner
2. abrade the crack itself with a Dremel tool to make a V indent. Clean
again with acetone or thinner
3. Get some JBWeld (2 part expoxy, about $10) and fill the crack.

I've fixed a cracked block successfully with this, and it lasted 15 months
until the head dropped a valve into a cylinder, at which point everything
stopped ...

Cheap and easy and may work just fine.

Thats goos advice, that is actually honda's recommended repair for a
condition in some accoreds that had porous blocks.
