Differences between Honda groups? Does anyone know them?

I am not great w/ the computer yet but learning. During a search for recalls
on my wife's Honda I came across these two groups below. Can anyone tell me
the difference? I see some of the same questions in both and the same
replies word for word. Maybe they're one in the same? Thanks much to anyone
that can help me learn so I don't duplicate efforts and so I can find the
best place for information on her car.

Group: rec . autos . makers . honda

Group: alt . autos . honda

A lot of people "cross-post" messages to more than one group, though that is
generally frowned upon, or actually forbidden by the group's charter document.

I believe that rec . autos . makers . honda is the more active of the two.

PS- Any "other" rules I should know? I'm new to this how newsgroup thing.
Someone else had to find and add them to my outlook or I'd never find them
again. But I'm learning (Or trying to at least). I put the reply under the
original message as someone yelled at me for putting it on top.

Most NGs have a charter
From Google, choose "Groups"
then type in the name of the newsgroup [space] charter

A lot of the old-timers don't like top-posting. I do both, depending on the
message.
The other big no-no is posting commercial messages.
