EDU error codes for 89 Civic DX Hatch back

Anyone know how to interpret that blinking light on the ECU? I got a check
engine today and saw that the ecu light is flashing one time, pause, one
time, pause, etc. It felt like the car missed (didn't fire for one cycle or
something) and then came right back. That's when the check engine light
came on. Thanks for ya'll help.

These are listed in the Haynes manuals, but you're right, it is often
caused by a misfire (or is on my 88 civic anyway)

one blink is an error in the oxygen sensor, caused by , yep, a misfire
sending unburnt stuff down to the cat.

Some great contributor found this link
http://www.iequus.com/assets/manuals..._E_14JAN03.pdf to a manual
that covers testing your car, and many other Japanese imports from the late
80s through 1995. Wherever it refers to a "code reader" they are talking
about the jumpers they sell with this manual for $35 US or so. I bought the
set before this was posted :-(

That's a Code 1: Oxygen Sensor.

Pull the Backup fuse (or Hazard/Backup) under the hood for 30 seconds, then
replace. This will reset the Check Engine light.

If the CEL does not illuminate again, forget about it. If it does, check
all wiring for integrity. If good, replace oxygen sensor.
