EGR valve

This is a generic question. Is the EGR valve always open in the cars that
have one?

Re: EGR valve

Nope. It would making starting a bitch. PCM tells it when to open.

The EGR valve returns exhaust gases back into the combustion chamber to
reduce combusion temperature and hence oxides of nitrogen. This also
reduces engine power. EGR occurs under certain throttle, manifold air
pressure, coolant temperature, RPM, and a few other items.

A rough approximation might be 1/3 throttle, warm engine, >2000 RPM.
