Element Towing
 

Hi there,

Anybody have an element out there that they have done any
towing with? What are your experiences? Good, Bad?

What is the towing capacity on this beast anyways?

1500 lbs, from what I've read in the specs and features on Honda's website.

As an aside, I just priced the tow package, and found this difference
between Honda and a third-party website claiming to sell true Honda parts:

trailer hitch 295 / 212
wiring harness for hitch <05 168 / 120
hitch ball 14 / 11

That's a good chunk of change one keeps, if they can be trusted.

i had an old volvo 340 (86) with a 1.4 engine, and its towing capacity
was 3000lb. 1500's nothing. even a little fiat punto can do 2200lb
(1000kg)

Me thinks the limits have more to do with the underbody carriage than the
engine and transmission, in this case. The element, Cr-V, accord, etc, all
seem to have about a 1,000- 1,500 pound limit. I do not think that any of
these vehicles have a real "frame." Therefore, nothing real solid to attach
the receiver to.

Me thinks the limits have more to do with the underbody carriage than the
engine and transmission, in this case. The element, Cr-V, accord, etc, all
seem to have about a 1,000- 1,500 pound limit. I do not think that any of
these vehicles have a real "frame." Therefore, nothing real solid to attach
the receiver to.

You are right, it is 1 1/2 ton capacity, in us lbs.

Not kg. I find it hard to believe that the UK version fo the CR-V and tow,
3300 lbs, and that the US version can only tow 1,500.

there are 2200lb in a ton 3300lb is 1 1/2 ton, 1500 is about 3/4 ton,

(1100lb, or thereabouts) HAS to have brakes on it, which activate
with the cars, OR if it comes loose from the car. There's a standard 7
pin connector, which activates the lights, the brakes, and on some
cars, will activate towing features for them.

better than the 2-wire anderson powerplug connector most trucks use.

there are 2200lb in a ton 3300lb is 1 1/2 ton, 1500 is about 3/4 ton,

(1100lb, or thereabouts) HAS to have brakes on it, which activate

thanks for the weights and measurements lesson, but did you look at the
reference to the edmunds site. It clearly states the towing capacity is
1500 lbs.

I do not think the towing issue is related to the braking ability of the
vehicle, though that is clearly important, but in this case the tongue
weight of the vehicle is more the issue. Class 1 hitches are rated at 2,000
lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight. These are the hitches desgined for
the CR-V. There is no way that a honda is rated to tow 3, 300 lbs.

I do not think the towing issue is related to the braking ability of the
vehicle, though that is clearly important, but in this case the tongue
weight of the vehicle is more the issue. Class 1 hitches are rated at 2,000
lbs towing and 200 lbs tongue weight. These are the hitches desgined for
the CR-V. There is no way that a honda is rated to tow 3, 300 lbs.
