Engine Shopping...

Hi there, buying a stock 89 CRX Si at the end of the month and looking for
parts to put in it. Wanna upgrade the powertrain first. Anyone know of some
good links for info on CRX compatible engines (vtec a's b's H22's?) and also
where I could buy them from? I live in Canada so close to home would be nice
(British Columbia), or just on the net.

Thanks for any help,
Dimitri Marshall

H series and B series will drop in with Hasport mounts. A b16 or B18 will be
the best for a road driven car, H22 will give you excessive understeer from
the extra weight of a 2.2 litre. Search google for "JDM honda engines" and
you will find engines with 30-40K miles for a couple G's. Or check
thepartstrader.com if you want to buy local. Vtec a's ? Im 99%$ sure there
is no A series engine made by Honda

I think some welding and such is required also? If not, I'm a happy guy.

Ya I've been told that quite a bit. I'm just gonna get some fat tires and
good suspension to counter that. It's too tempting to go with a H23, 2.3L
230HP engine, so I will. The power just makes me giggle.

Great thanks.

Ya, dunno why I said "A". Anyway, thanks for your help.

From what I've been told just get some wide tires and good suspension. I
watched a video of a crx racing a supra and the crx with the H22 ran a red
light, either because of his stupidity or because of the heavy motor.
Personally, I'm gonna get an H23 and just get some good tires and good
suspension. Come on, 230 HP? How can you say no? Add a turbo and good
intake/exhaust and you have yourself a wonderfully powered 300HP REX which
is pretty much what I'm looking for. I dunno, maybe I'm stupid but I just
like the idea. The new 05 stangs are 300HP stock but weigh at least twice as
much. Think about that one.

I'm planning to do a similar swap myself in a year or so. Just wondering,
are there any counter measures for oversteering after placing a H22 or H23
in a CRX?

Thanks!

I'd definitely wanna go for the 250+ mark but wouldn't that heavy engine
cause the front to drop?

Re: Engine Shopping...

Remember "good suspension" means getting a considerably higher spring rate
springs for the front and some shocks that can handle that spring rate. Ask
around on honda-tech.com or some other board more dedicated to modifying
hondas to see what others are running to keep the H22 from understeering
when in a CRX. A larger rear sway bar, good strut bars, and a lower tie bar
will help in reducting flex & understeer.
