Follow up on NewB!!!
 

Hello all...
Well this car stared out with fuel injectors sticking open and was flooded,
then I caught it on fire... but... I tore the engine down,,, and today.. I
started it..
there is still some oil in the exhaust pipe and when it starts warming up it
starts smoking but the car itself don't smoke.. I replaced the head gasket
and exhaust manifold gasket it starts with a touch of the key and runs
extremely smooth! the only issue I am having with it now is that I know for
sure that the timing is not exact... I believe that it is just a little fast
and don't see how this one would adjust... I went and got a manual today and
it shows a screw to loosen then advance or retard distributor but this is
not the one shown in the book... maybe one of you have the answer..
something simple this is a 2.0L multi port FI. on a 88 Honda accord LXi
whatever LXi means....

Also.... I have heard there is a way to reset the computer by turning on
the key, unplugging "something" waiting to the count of 5 then plug
"something" back in then to turn off the key and back on. what is
"something" I know it is a wiring harness under the dash but don't know
which one...

dunno about the other stuff (timing issues), but I'm pretty sure you can
reset the ECU by taking the neg. battery terminal off for 5 min.----I did
that after I put on my short-ram (intake) on my Acura (Teg). (This was
recommended by the instruction stuff that came with it).

I can't help much other than to agree with what has already been said.
Removing the neg. battery cable for 10 mins should definitely do the trick.
I did that on my 93 Accord after pulling the back up and ECM fuse didn't
reset the computer.

With regard to LXi, if memory serves correct, that was the first of that
model to have fuel injection used on it. Thus, the "i" for injection.

I can't help much other than to agree with what has already been said.

A slight misfire at idle can be caused by an incorrect valve adjustment.
There are revised valve clearances for '85-'89 Accords and '85-'87 Preludes
with fuel injection. Adjust the intake valves to 0.20 mm and the exhaust
valves to 0.32 mm. These specs are a little looser than the specs on the
underhood sticker and eliminate the excessive valve over lap which causes a
rough idle if the underhood sticker specs are used. For reference, this
information is from a Vital Link TSB.

Just wanted to let yall know, I drilled a hole in the big stainless still
muffler and let it drain the water and oil out, and it now does not smoke!!!
every thing seems to be running just fine other than the engine light comes
on when you are on the freeway at about 70 - 80 mph. Next project is to get
the exhaust changed back to original and the intake breather assembly back
to normal. some one had put that big muffler and a huge cone shaped air
filter on it. I am sure this is probably messing with the sensors. She
runs Great! thanks..
