has this ever happened?
 

Installed a cold air intake on an RSX. Apparantly one of the dangers is
that because it sits so low and in the left front wheel area that it could
suck up water. The car is lowered so it sits about 6 inches off the ground.

Now...has anyone heard of that happening? Going through standing water that
it could actually suck the water into the air intake? First hand knowledge
only please....No urban legends...

Yes it can. Happened to a friend of mine... he also happened to work a metal
shop so he used the facilities to fashion an airpass thru that wouldn't all
water up it...

That's why there's bypass valves on the market for this. I think you have to
cut the pipe & then just hook it up.

I saw it happen to a friend's Safari van, back in '86, the air intake was
fairly low in that year. He drove through a deep puddle of water and it
sucked water into the engine.

yes, it does happen, get an air bypass valve, aem is by far the preferred
brand

been there done that... bypass valves are good as gold for that type of
situation if you ask me

I went with a short ram intake due to worries about water but to each their
