HELP ......'97 civic dx won't start

I went out to start my usually dependable '97 Civic this morning and
as it was about to start it died and now it just cranks. I checked and
the timing belt is still on and looks good (not sure how a bad one
would look). The car has only 45K miles. A friend suggested checking
for spark. I'm going to do that...but am worried that maybe the timing
belt jumped a tooth or something? But it would still run, yes? or no?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Do you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key to 'run',but before
you get to 'start'? You may have a bad main relay.Gotta have fuel along
with the spark.

Timing belts should be changed at around 60K miles.

Check out this site;

There's also a link to the igniter problem,your next possible problem.
