Honda Accord... Hatch will not open on it's own
I have a 2 door Honda Accord and when I pull up on the hatch release latch
beside the driver's seat to pop open the rear hatch, it will no longer pop up on it's own any more. When I open the rear hatch with the key, I have to pull the hatch up by hand, it will not rise on it's own any more... What is that used to make the hatch pop up on it's own before? I have recently replaced the lifters (both) about a year or so ago. Is it possible they are wearing out already? RobertBodling@yahoo.com |

As you probably know, they are gas-filled and the gas gradually leaks out. A year is a shockingly short life span; 5 to 10 years is more usual. I suggest a different brand (any different brand since those stink) next time. The gas pressure is better in warm weather than in cold weather, so they will probably perk up when the weather warms up. But I bet next winter the hatch will be whacking you in the head if you don't replace the lifts by then. Mike |
