Honda Care

Any comments on the various flavors of Honda Care?

When I leased my new Accord, these were sold as add-ons in the finance
office. When I'm in the finance stage, I'm all primed to say "NO!" to
any and all suggestions other than what has already been negotiated.

BUT, the least level of Honda Care covers scheduled maintenance, adds
roadside assistance and a loaner car - for about half the dealer list
price for the same scheduled maintenance, coming to about $10/month.
THAT sounded like a great deal to me, and I took it. In fact, it is
SUCH a great deal, shouldn't they feature it up front?

(it is not *quite* a waiver of all maintenance for the life of the
lease, like the Germans are now offering, but it's close. why don't
they offer a full waiver for another $5/month or whatever it might
cost?)

I turned down another level of care that would have included both a
lojack (which would have saved me a bit on my insurance, now that I
think about it - and they should have mentioned it!), AND raised the
damage waver on the lease from $500*3 to $1500*3. This for about
$25/month, I believe, times 36 months, or $900. I turned it down.
Perhaps I was too hasty - but again, if they had presented it as a
optional FEATURE rather than a finance add-on, I think I would have
gone for it.

Anyone have any further thoughts on these deals?

J.

When I bought my 06 I was presented with a scheme labelled as a "Honda
Loyalty" plan. They wanted an immediate decision which made me suspicious. I
had kept full records and a total cost of my Prelude (traded in) which were
less than the cost of the plan for the 0-6 (financed of course) which ran up
to 100k. It was a discount not a full plan like BMW. Whatever plan you
consider needs to be fully evaluated in terms of any possible advantage.
But, I would have to say that since they are making money off you, the
advantage is probably theirs.

There aren't levels of HondaCare.

You were getting ed by the finance guy, pure and simple.

A friend of mine bought a "certified used Civic"--but when I looked at
her paperwork, they had sold her a third party extended warranty, and
not the HondaCare that goes with Honda's "Certified Used" program.

She stood her ground and made them re-do it, three months later...
