Honda Odyssey Transmission
 

I'm trying to reach everyone who has had continous problems with their
Honda Odysseys from 99-2004. I own a 2000 Odyssey that from about
20,000 miles has been experiencing acceleration drags up to 40 to 50
mph. In my car's model year they even extended the warranty from 30K
to 100K. I trying to organize a "Class Action" Lawsuit to provide
relief for consumers faced with this problem.

I'm doing for the following reasons:
1)The overall value of the car is diminished because of widely known
transmission issues. It's goint to be hard to sell.

2)The warranty cost of my initial transmission replacement totalled
over $2000.00.
Who has the money to shell that out of your own pocket?

3)I believe this van to be unsafe because of the predicaments that
transmission problems can placed entire families while driving the
vehicle on the roads and especially when driving in
freeways/turnpikes/expressways, etc.

Please call the following Government Organizations to initialize an
awareness of this problem.

National Highway Safety (800)424-9393

If you have similar issues let's join forces nationwide to have Honda
of America rectify this issue.

You got relief. They extended the warranty to 100k miles. Even with the
"faulty" Honda tranny, the failure rates aren't higher than many
"non-faulty" trannys from other makes. I think you are just an
opportunist looking for a cash payout.

I feel cheated too since I bought mine for Honda's reputation of
longivity ( and my experience of owning 3 Hondas into the high 100k
mile range with only PM and minor repairs . There is no question I
will sell it prior to extended transmission warranty running out . It
looks like maybe I got a Caravan with Honda labels but at resale will
still be better .

Has it given you any problems yet?

Are you going to tell the prospective buyers about the transmission problem?

I'm sure the bulletin board there is full of this. I have 2000 EX Ody as
well, and I'm feeling pretty good. I've had no problems to date and I have a
100k mile warranty in the file cabinet.

Why did you have to pay $2000? The warranty is parts & labor, no?

While chasing down the sliding door noise, I also asked the Honda
Service Manager if they were having any problems with the 5 speed
transmission.
"Oh yeah", he said, about 30 a month. They can inspect and if there
is no gear damage, they add a lube kit which provides lubrication to the
gear which is not getting addequate lubrication. If damaged, they
change out the transmission.
This only occurs on the 5 speed trannie, the prior 4 speed is NO
problem.

This was announced several weeks ago by Honda. Recall letters are going
out in a staged manner, to get people in and get checked out and fixed
up as needed.
