Honda Warranties
Have purchased an 05 Accord, any thoughts as to the wisdom of purchasing one
of the factory warranties. Thanks |

Excuse me, didn't we just complete a thread on this very topic only
yesterday? Tony, I would think if you look in your news queue for the past 2-3 days you will find your answer, in detail. Short answer: save your money. If so, buy an extended warranty. You are buying peace of mind. If you don't worry a lot--don't buy one. It's very unlikely you will have any major problems with your car during the warranty period. Even if you do, it probably won't cost more to fix the problem than you would pay for the warranty. I worry a lot so I purchased an extended warranty. I have peace of mind but I realize that it was a bad investment. -- NEWSGROUP SUBSCRIBERS MOTTO We respect those subscribers that ask for advice or provide advice. You'll realize just how bad of an investment it really was if/when it ever comes time to use it and you learn that your particular malady is one of those things mentioned in the fine print (one of the weasel clauses) as being excluded or otherwise limited. Example, blow a head gasket some time and see what you're told. Example #2: Run over some object in the road and have it fly up and puncture your oil filter, a mere $5 part. But it's late and you're in a really bad neighborhood or your wife is alone on the highway and there's no safe or convenient place to get off, so you or she runs the car out of oil. Call up your warranty company and see what you're told. To me "peace of mind" is knowing that there's enough money in my savings account to fix the car should anything major crop up. For the price of one of these "extended warranties" I can do a pretty major repair and not have to argue with anyone about what's covered and what isn't. In fact... for less than 1/3 the cost of that ext. warranty, which it's a statistical fact you're unlikely to ever need, I can have the 60k major service done, including the timing belt. Your ext. warranty won't cover one red cent of that repair or any other routine service, but that same money, tucked safely away in a savings account will cover every penny of it, with money left over. |
