How the hell to I remove that altenator
I have a 91 Honda Exr
Tried to remove altenator but no such luck. I am NO mechanic but gave it a try I removed what appears to be the a/c unit on top of the altenator.....then again maybe it was the p/s pump. Then I let go the main bolt running horizontal in the altenator....let go the wires.....the the tightening screw I could not get all the ways out because there was not enough space. What do I do other than tow it to the garage? |
Re: How the hell to I remove that altenator
funny you two are talking about this I just replaced my alternator not too
long ago. after i got it free from the guides and had taken the bolts out it was a matter of finding a way to get it out from the tight space it was in. so i dropped it down to the bottom of the engine compartment and pushed it through to the passenger side of the car and pulled it out between the 2 hoses going into the firewall to the heater core. there is a little bit of twisting to be done but be careful the hoses should be warm before you do it otherwise you will crack them. Re: How the hell to I remove that altenator
You have to remove everything that's getting in the way. There are two bolts
on the alternator you have to unscrew. One is on the bottom, which when unscrewed a little, will let the alternator move up/down and forward/backward (it helps to relief the tension on the belt that runs the alternator). The other one is on the side near the top of the alternator, which holds the alternator in place. You have to remove both to remove the alternator. You can get a service manual for your honda which will describe and show you pictures of how to replace the alternator, step by step.
