Hybrid Accord
 

I am considering an Accord Hybrid 2006. I like the specs but so far I
haven't been able to test-drive one. Because of the high demand, there is
a long wait time (3 to 6 months in Canada), I am forced to pay list price
with no choices of colours or finishes.
Is it worth it ??? Anyone cares to share his/her experiences with Honda
Hybrids ???

I wouldn't always beleive what they tell you. When I bought my RSX I was
told it was in high demand, and it was the last one they had left, so they
could not cut me any deals. I said ok, I don't want it then. I got a phone
call...they lowered the interested rate to 2.5 percent. Said no thanks, I
would wait till next year. They said ok. They called back, knocked off
$1000. I again said no thanks, that I would wait for next years and go for
the type S (Seeing as they didn't have any Type S's left). They said ok.
Again they called back and said ok, how about if we throw in some nice rims.
So they went from can't do anything about the price cause they are in high
demand to $1000 off, low interest rate, and nice set of rims...

No. But I will rant a bit. The notion of alternate engine designs
should be dedicated to reducing consumption and emissions, not have a
more or less 0 gain in this regard while making a junior muscle car.

I would have been delighted if they had aimed for a total horsepower
(combustion + electric) of 125 - 150 hp with real cruise economy.

I am disgusted with Honda (more wrt the Ridgeline) and the current
Accord (3rd accord + 1 civic) will be the last Honda for me.

Hello,
I believe that you should buy the Accord Hybrid 2006. Since gas prices are
going higher and higher--it makes sense to buy a hybrid. The only thing
that I don't like about it is the higher price. In addition, since there
is a high demand for them--whic means you won't get any price breaks. You
should also consider the Civic hybrid since it gets ever more miles per
gallon than the Accord.

The 4 cylinder stick shift version of the Accord makes much more sense
than the V-6 automatic hybrid. Very few people are getting real world
fuel economy on their hybrids which matches the EPA fuel economy
ratings. When Consumer Reports tested the V-6 hybrid automatic version
they got 25 mpg overall in their city/highway mix. The same test of the
4 cylinder automatic got 24 mpg. The didn't test a 4 cylinder stick,
but typically stick shifts do a little better than automatics.

If you want an Accord, save yourself a pile of money by buying a well
equipped 4 cylinder stick shift version. Yes it will not be able to run
the drag strip as fast as the V-6 hybrid version, but it will have
plenty of power for any normal North American usage. You will also be
getting a car built with well proven technology and not with battery
packs which are going to eventually wear down and cost big $$$$ to replace.
