Intermittent "groan" in 99 Accord
Hi all -
My wife has a '99 Accord LX Sedan - 5 speed, with about 85,000 miles. On occasion (1-2 times a week for months), we hear a low "groaning" sound - when moving forward from a stop. Usually it is when turning - such as when going left or right from a stoplight at an intersection. It is not very loud, and to me SOUNDS like the tires are rubbing on something - but there is no difference in acceleration whatsoever, and the tires appear to be fine. I should mention that the car has stalled on her twice when this has happened, and recently the engine died while sitting at a stoplight. Every time the car starts just fine, and away we go until it reappears a few days later. Sorry I can't provide more detail - but this is all we have. Any suggestions ? Thanks ! - Mike |

It isn't a rubbing sound exactly, but more like a bad bearing. Mike |

I would advise you to take it to your favorite mechanic and tell him the problem. He can place it on a lift and take a close look at the various parts related to the suspension system. He might even have a helper or fellow mechanic turn the steering wheel to the left and right to see if the mechanic can determine the exact source of the sound that you are hearing. I don't know whether or not the stalling problem is connected to the suspension problem. The mechanic should be able to tell you whether or not there is a connection. -- NEWSGROUP SUBSCRIBERS MOTTO We respect those subscribers that ask for advice or provide advice.
