Looking for advice about service for Accord
 

Hi,

I'm looking for advice about the best way
to service my Honda Accord 2001 4cyl. It is past
warranty with about 30 thousand miles.
What would be the most cost-effective way to
service it?
Should I go to Honda dealer's service department or
are there other option which would allow to serve
it for less money without sacrificing too much in
quality?

If you are even slightly mechanically inclined, get a service manual and
do some of the repairs yourself. If your dealer doesn't have one, you can
buy it here:

For example, disc brake pad replacement is not at all complicated, and
this manual leads you by the hand with step by step illustrated
instructions. The $70.00 cost of the manual will more than pay for itself
after your first brake job. Get a quote (dealer or elsewhere) for simple
pad replacement with no rotor work and you'll see what I mean. The pads
from the dealer are less than $60.00 and even come with a little moly grease
packet that you'll need. They can probably be found a cheaper elsewhere.

If you don't feel comfortable doing any repairs, let us know what state
and town you are in and maybe someone here can make a recomendation for a
relaible repair shop in your area. Or see if there is a newsgroup for your
state and ask there.

With that mileage... you are probably due for transmission fluid
change, if you have an automatic. Probably the brakes should at least
be inspected around this time. As always... regular oil changes are the
cheapest insurance for keeping your vehicle in good running condition.
