New To Me 1997 Honda CRV AWD

I just bought a 1997 Honda CRV all wheel drive with 80,000 miles on it from
a used car dealer. The dealer claims to have run the mandatory safety check
and performed routine maintenance such as changing the oil. I don't have
any history of prior servicing. The car spent its first 4 years in Las
Vegas, Nevada and the last three years in Southern California according to
Carfax.

The Owner's Manual says to replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles or 84
months --whichever comes first. Since the car is 84 months old, should I go
ahead and replace the timing belt to be safe?

Is this the type of engine that suffers damage if the timing belt brakes
while the engine is running?

Do you have any other recommendations as to things that should be checked
and/or serviced?

Thank you for your help,

Bob

PS: We really like the car and it seems very solid.
