OT: Audi A4 tranny fails
 

(lot more traffic here than on the Audi group, and some people who
seem to know more than just Hondas!)

Brother's 2001 A4 auto tranny apparently just failed catastrophically
- if you can use that word for 140k miles car. Leaking oil and
smoking, dealer's first eval is that it's past repair, over $4k to
replace with rebuilt.

Is this common in the line?

Shouldn't there have been some warning?

ps - I think the first warning should have been the 100k mileage, but
that's just me.
